Vitablocs are made from Vita's Mark II feldspathic porcelain material, which was developed in conjunction with MIT. It is the only porcelain material available that is specifically designed for highly reliable performance in CAD/CAM applications. Other materials are derivatives of conventional materials and are more susceptible to chipping and micro-cracking during the milling process. Also, Vitablocs require no crystallization firing or expensive furnace, and with the Vita Triluxe forte blocs there is no need for staining and glazing in order to get a highly esthetic result. Users simply mill to full contour, polish, and place the restoration in the mouth. Users simply mill to full contour, polish, and place the restoration in the mouth.

MPa VS. N: Strong vs. Strong Enough?

“If we look at bonding-in the Mark II material into the tooth we’re back to about 96% of the original strength... the Mark II blocks reinforce the tooth to nearly its original value.”
